Inside Techspire College's Office of Innovation — the HIVE Challenge, the Entrepreneurship Cohort, mentorship, and up to NPR 1 crore in seed funding built to turn student ideas into real technology companies.

Nepal does not only need more people who can perform the jobs that already exist.

We need people who can create the jobs that do not exist yet.

We need people who can look at a problem that everyone has accepted as normal and ask: “Can technology solve this differently?”

We need developers who do not only wait for requirements, but create products. We need designers who do not only execute instructions, but imagine new experiences. We need students who do not only prepare themselves for the existing industry, but prepare themselves to build the next one.

That is a much bigger challenge — the same challenge we described in Nepal’s IT industry growth: the country needs more builders, not just more people who understand what technology is.

And at Techspire College, we believe a degree, even when combined with practical and non-credit courses, is not enough to create that kind of entrepreneur.

You need an environment. An environment where ideas have a place to begin, people have access to guidance, problems become opportunities, and promising ideas can receive the resources required to become real businesses.

That is the thinking behind the Office of Innovation at Techspire.

We Don’t Just Want to Produce Job-Ready Graduates

There is an important difference between being job-ready and being future-ready.

A job already has a structure. There is usually a defined role. There are responsibilities. There are processes. There may be an SOP to follow. Someone has already identified the problem, designed the business model, built the system, and created the position. Your responsibility is to execute.

And there is nothing wrong with that — every industry needs capable professionals who can execute exceptionally well.

But a country cannot build its next generation of industries only through execution. Someone has to create something that did not exist before. Someone has to identify a problem. Someone has to build the first prototype. Someone has to test whether people actually need it. Someone has to take the risk of turning an idea into a company. Someone has to create employment for others.

That person is an entrepreneur.

And when that entrepreneur uses technology to solve a meaningful problem, they become something even more powerful: a technology innovator. That is the kind of person we want to help develop at Techspire.

From “What Job Will I Get?” to “What Can I Build?”

Education often teaches students to ask: “What job can I get after graduation?”

We want students to also ask: “What problem can I solve?” And eventually: “What can I build that people will actually use?”

That change in mindset is important, because entrepreneurship cannot simply be taught through a textbook. You can teach students what a business model is. You can explain market research. You can teach them about funding. You can explain how startups work. But none of that automatically turns an idea into a company.

Entrepreneurship requires doing. It requires experimentation. It requires failure. It requires mentorship. It requires access to people. It requires resources. And most importantly, it requires an environment where students are encouraged to try.

This Is Why We Created the Office of Innovation

The Office of Innovation at Techspire exists to create that environment. It is designed to give students and emerging entrepreneurs a place where ideas can move beyond conversations and begin becoming real.

The objective is not simply to organize entrepreneurship events. The objective is to create a journey:

Problem → Idea → Experiment → Prototype → MVP → Validation → Incubation → Market → Growth

Students can enter at different points of this journey depending on where their idea or project stands. Some may begin with nothing more than a problem they have noticed. Some may already have an idea. Some may have built a prototype. Some may have developed an MVP. And some may already have something that is ready to enter the market.

Our role is to help them move to the next stage.

HIVE Challenge: Start With a Real Problem

One of the ways students can begin their innovation journey is through the HIVE Challenge.

The idea behind HIVE is simple: don’t solve an imaginary problem, solve a real one.

Students get the opportunity to identify actual problems around them and think about how technology can address them. And where better to begin than the environment they experience every day? The college itself becomes a living laboratory.

Students can observe how things work. They can identify inefficiencies. They can talk to the people experiencing the problem. They can understand the existing process. Then they can ask: can we build something better?

What Happens in a HIVE Challenge?

Imagine a student noticing that a particular process inside a college is unnecessarily slow. Instead of simply complaining about it, the student asks: “Can we build a system to solve this?” That question becomes the beginning. The student can:

  1. Identify the problem
  2. Understand the people affected by it
  3. Study the existing process
  4. Define the actual requirement
  5. Develop a solution
  6. Build a prototype
  7. Test it
  8. Collect feedback
  9. Improve the system

Now the student is no longer simply learning about software development. They are experiencing what it means to build a solution for a real user. That is fundamentally different.

The College Becomes Your First Testing Ground

One of the biggest challenges for a young entrepreneur is finding a real environment in which to test an idea. At Techspire, students can begin by looking at the problems around them. The college can become a place to experiment.

A problem can become a project. A project can become a prototype. A prototype can become an MVP. And an MVP can potentially become a business.

This creates an important learning cycle: observe → build → test → learn → improve.

The objective is not to make every student start a company. The objective is to give students the confidence and experience to think like problem-solvers. Because even if an idea fails, the student learns something valuable: how to build, how to test, how to listen, how to improve.

Entrepreneurship Cohort: Where Ideas Get Incubated

The HIVE Challenge is one way to discover and develop ideas. But what happens when a student has an idea that has potential? That is where the Entrepreneurship Cohort comes in.

The Entrepreneurship Cohort is designed to provide a structured environment for promising ideas to develop further — a place where an early-stage idea can receive the support it needs to move towards becoming a viable product or venture.

Instead of saying “here is your idea, now figure everything out yourself,” we want to create an environment where students can access the right people, knowledge, guidance, mentorship, and resources throughout the process.

From Raw Idea to Market-Ready Product

An idea is only the beginning. A startup is not built because someone had a good idea — it is built when that idea solves a real problem for real people. That means the idea needs to go through several stages.

  1. The Problem — what exactly are we trying to solve?
  2. The Customer — who experiences this problem?
  3. The Solution — what are we proposing?
  4. The Prototype — can we demonstrate how the solution could work?
  5. The MVP — can we build a minimum version that real users can actually use?
  6. Validation — do people actually want it? Will they use it? Will they pay for it?
  7. Incubation — how do we improve the product and build the business around it?
  8. Market — can we take it beyond the college environment?

This is where the Office of Innovation becomes important. We want to help ideas move through these stages rather than remaining as ideas written in a notebook.

Mentorship: Because You Don’t Have to Figure Everything Out Alone

Entrepreneurship can be lonely. A student may have a great idea but have no idea how to validate the market, build a business model, price a product, acquire customers, structure a company, raise investment, build a team, or develop a go-to-market strategy.

This is where mentorship becomes valuable. Through the Office of Innovation, students can get access to guidance and mentorship to help them navigate the challenges of building a venture.

Because sometimes the most valuable thing an experienced entrepreneur can tell you is not “here’s what you should do.” It is: “here’s the mistake I made — don’t make it again.” That kind of learning cannot always be found in a textbook.

Access to Resources

An idea can fail because it is bad. But sometimes an idea fails because the person building it does not have access to the resources required to test it. That should not always be the reason an idea dies.

The Office of Innovation is designed to provide access to the resources required to move promising ideas forward. Depending on the needs of the venture, this can include support around:

  • Product development
  • Mentorship
  • Technology
  • Business development
  • Market validation
  • Networking
  • Industry connections
  • Partner access
  • Funding

The objective is simple: give promising ideas a better chance to become real.

When the MVP Is Ready, the Journey Doesn’t End

Building an MVP is a major achievement. But an MVP is not a successful business. Once a product has been built and tested, the next question becomes: “can this become a real company?”

This is where many student ideas stop. The prototype works. The MVP is ready. Maybe some people are already using it. But the founders don’t know what to do next. How do we enter the market? How do we acquire customers? How do we build a team? How do we scale? How do we finance growth?

This is where Techspire’s innovation ecosystem aims to go beyond the classroom.

Up to NPR 1 Crore in Seed Funding

For businesses that have progressed beyond the idea stage and have developed a tested MVP with the potential to enter the market, Techspire provides a pathway for further support.

Eligible ventures can receive up to NPR 1 crore in seed funding, depending on the venture, its potential, stage, evaluation, and funding requirements.

This changes the conversation. The student is no longer asking “how can I complete my project?” — they are asking “how can I take this product to the market?” That is a completely different mindset: from assignment to execution, from prototype to product, from product to business, from student project to potential company.

Funding Is Only One Part of Building a Company

Money alone does not build a startup. A founder can receive funding and still fail if they don’t have the right team, the right market, the right product, customer understanding, business knowledge, mentorship, industry connections, or execution capability.

That is why funding is not the entire innovation ecosystem. For market-ready ventures, Techspire aims to provide access to partners, networks, mentorship, and other resources that can help founders move towards growth. The goal is to help entrepreneurs access the ecosystem they need to take their businesses forward.

Imagine What This Journey Could Look Like

A student notices a problem inside the college. They participate in the HIVE Challenge. They research the problem, build a solution, and test it with actual users. They develop an MVP. The idea enters the Entrepreneurship Cohort, where they receive mentorship and incubation support. The product gets refined. The MVP is validated. The venture becomes market-ready. The founder can explore seed funding and partner access. The company enters the market.

That is the journey we want to make possible: problem → product → company.

Not Every Student Needs to Become an Entrepreneur

There is something else we want to make clear. We do not believe every student needs to become a founder.

Entrepreneurship is difficult. It involves uncertainty. It involves risk. It requires persistence.

Some students will become excellent engineers. Some will become researchers. Some will become designers. Some will become technology leaders. Some will join established companies and build incredible products there. And some will build companies of their own.

Our responsibility is not to decide which one they should become. Our responsibility is to give them the environment to discover what they are capable of — including through spaces like the Entrepreneurship and InnovHub Club for students who want to explore that path alongside their studies.

We Want Students to Think Beyond Existing Jobs

The world already has thousands of job descriptions. But the future will also have jobs that do not exist today. Companies that have not been founded yet. Products that have not been imagined yet. Technologies that have not been built yet. Problems that have not been solved yet.

Someone will build them. Why shouldn’t that someone be a student from Nepal? Why shouldn’t a technology company serving millions of users start from a classroom in Kathmandu? Why shouldn’t a student solve a problem faced by millions of people? Why shouldn’t Nepal produce technology companies that compete globally?

We believe it can. But it requires a different kind of education.

From Education to Innovation

Education traditionally follows a simple model: learn → graduate → get a job.

We want to add another possibility: learn → identify a problem → build → validate → innovate → create.

That does not replace the traditional pathway — it expands it. A student can still graduate and get a job. But now they can also ask: “what if I create something instead?” That question can change a person’s life. And sometimes, it can change an industry.

Building Nepal’s Next Generation of Technology Innovators

Nepal’s technology future will not be built only by people filling existing positions. It will also be built by people creating new products, new companies, new technologies, and new opportunities.

That is why we believe the responsibility of an IT college goes beyond teaching programming languages and technical concepts. We need to create a place where students can think, question, experiment, build, fail, learn, try again, and eventually create.

The classroom can give you knowledge. A practical course can give you skills. But an innovation ecosystem can give you the opportunity to turn those skills into something that did not exist before.

The Future Should Not Only Be Something You Prepare For

It should be something you participate in building.

At Techspire, we want our students to graduate with more than a certificate. We want them to leave with the confidence to look at a problem and think: “I can build a solution.”

And for the students whose solutions have the potential to become something bigger, we want to provide a pathway. Through the Office of Innovation, the HIVE Challenge, the Entrepreneurship Cohort, incubation, mentorship, resources, partner access, and seed funding opportunities, we are working to create an environment where raw ideas can have the opportunity to become market-ready ventures.

Because the next great technology company from Nepal may not exist yet. The next great Nepali technology entrepreneur may still be sitting in a classroom. And their idea may still be just an idea.

Our job is to help give that idea a place to begin.

From Student to Founder

Maybe your journey starts with a problem you notice. Maybe it starts with a question. Maybe it starts with a small idea. Maybe it starts with a project.

Whatever the starting point, the journey can be much bigger than a college assignment. It can become a product. A product can become a company. A company can create jobs. And that company can become part of Nepal’s technology future.

We don’t want to only prepare students for the world that exists. We want to help prepare them to build the world that comes next.
